Projects

Currently, I am working with Dr. Darjan Podbevšek at Prof. Miguel Modestino's Lab at NYU Tandon on a project involving the use of alternative electrolyzer geometries for hydrogen production. Specifically, we are using the Venturi effect to influence the behavior of bubbles in the system, thus increasing the energetic efficiency of alkaline water electrolysis. Publication coming soon!

Previously, I worked at the Frist Center for Autism and Innovation, on a project that explored the statistical relationship between ADHD and substance use disorders under the mentorship of Dr. Jessica Schonhut-Stasik. It was a great experience that allowed me to explore a social side of STEM-related research.

I also worked at the Chemistry Department of the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research, where I developed a software-based protocol for the improvement of the accuracy of Scott cocaine tests. In the first phase of the project, I participated in efforts for operationalizing the approach taken by law enforcement officers in handling samples of potential cocaine by applying cobalt thiocyanate. In its second phase, I created a desktop app (using Python and JavaScript) that analyzed spectral data from pictures of the samples in order to gather information on the accuracy and sensitivity of the test. This project got selected for a showcase at the UNODC Youth Forum 2024 in Vienna, Austria.
